UCAS figures show that the number of university applications already submitted is three times higher across the UK compared to the same point last year.

Figures show that there has been a 3.5% increase in the number of applicants to institutions across the UK.
The figures indicate that university applications are starting to recover after the significant drop following the trebling of the tuition fee cap.
Mary Curnock Cook, Chief Executive of UCAS said in a statement: "This is an encouraging report, young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are 80% more likely to apply than a decade ago.”
However the National Union of Students warned the government not to be complacent about the impacts of its changes on students and universities.

Liam Burns, NUS President, said in a statement:

“No student should be put off going to university because of misinformation about how they’ll be asked to contribute, but the government cannot assume that recovering application levels tell the whole story, particularly when universities and students have found themselves so destabilised.”
